The Wind Speaks
after the poem Wind by James Arthur
Laurie Kuntz
It’s true—sometimes I cannot stop myself
and something sweet, like sugared coffee
set on a summer porch, spills.
A door slams before anyone is allowed
into a warm yellowing room.
The cap that protects from the rage of noon
flaps in a kite dance.
But then again, I am there to make chimes spin,
spread a crimson sheet of cherry blossoms over grey streets
and settle powdered snow banks against a decaying brick wall.
And you, I can change your moods and cool an anger,
make you hear the song of stones
sweeping red earth away.
You can see a clearing
in the horizon, get a different view
as I slap you in an embrace…
And carry blood to your cheeks.
